We recently gave this book as a gift, and they LOVED it! ALPHABLOCK by Christopher Franceschelli is an ABC book with a difference, the first thing you’ll notice is its size, though not tall or wide its pages are very thick, almost like a board book, so easily turned by little hands.
Within the book the thick pages are cut into the shape of each letter, children and parents will enjoy this peek-through guessing game "A is for...B is for..." around the letterform itself. Sprinkles, hot fudge, and cherries hint at I’s hidden ice cream sundae, while aquarium accessories hint at F’s fish.
As readers interact with the pages, they will familiarize themselves not only with the 26 letters and associated words, but also with each letter’s physicality—angles, holes, and curves, both front and back.
Almost like a lit-the-flap book in that you need to turn the page of the giant letter to see what is hidden behind, the bright illustrations are wonderfully engaging and have a retro feel, with imperfect variations in colour and texture.
A great way to introduce the alphabet to a younger child, and why not work on their numbers while you're at it - also available: COUNTABLOCK, with pages cut into the shape of numerals from 1 to 100!
